Working in and with the media since 2010
I started my career at KTAB-TV in Abilene Texas, my home town. I started working in production and quickly worked my way to Associate Producer and eventually to Photojournalist. My job consisted of producing and writing the 5 and 6 pm news every weekday. I was also responsible for editing the video and "boothing" the show. I also wrote stories for our website and assisted with social media content.
In 2012 I made the move to Tulsa, then to Oklahoma City where I joined the number one station in the market, KWTV News9. During my time at News9 I shot all kinds of stories and traveled to every corner of the state. In 2013 I had the opportunity to chase with one of the best storm chasers in the OKC market, David Payne. We chased all of the major tornadoes of 2013 including the Moore and El Reno tornadoes.
Eventually I was allowed to do some reporting from breaking news and severe weather events. I was the first journalist on the scene of the May Ave. bridge collapse in 2015 and the first on the air with the story. I covered several snow and ice events, severe weather, and even a gas line explosion. Producers knew they could rely on me to not only get exclusive video from breaking news scenes, but to also give them a live report.
I was one of the first in the OKC market to have a live shot with a BCNG unit. These units use several data cards from various wireless carriers to relay an HD signal back to the station and to your living room. KWTV was the first station in the market to adopt this technology and today is a leader in the market for breaking news coverage.
